A lot of people experience FOMO and don’t know what to do. People instead spend their money carelessly because of it.
FOMO is “anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on social media.” This means that you see people doing something or buying trending things and automatically want it. It doesn’t mean that you need it or actually want the item.
You just feel a need to be like everyone else and have that item. This is one of the top ways people spend money. 51%-57% of people admit that they spend money because they experience FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out.
Social Pressuring is a #1 reason why people spend so much. Its our natural way of thinking so don’t blame yourself for getting FOMO. Every human experiences it once in their life. Some more than others.
The problem is that FOMO is one of the big reasons people spend a lot. This is why you should try not to get FOMO (yes, you can try not to). Here are some easy steps to not get FOMO:
- Before purchasing always wait for 1-3 days to see if you even want the product.
- Limit your social media. This could help you eliminate seeing the wants in the first place.
- Appreciate the stuff you already have
- Focus on paying other more important things first (taxes, bills and food etc.)
