A lot of people see things and think, It’s right there! It might not be there again. I’ll just buy it now… it doesn’t cost too much….

That’s how you spend things on useless things.

People see things at the mall or wherever they’re visiting and they get this feeling where they have to buy it right away. This feeling is called F.O.M.O. This means Fear Of Missing Out. Here are some tips for spending wisely.

  1. Waiting Rule

When you see things you automatically want it. The Waiting Rule is where you give yourself time. If it is a small thing give yourself a day to think about it. Do you really need it? Could you get other things that are more important? If it is a big want you should give yourself a month to think about how much you actually want it versus having it to “look cool”.

  1. Researching for Better Options

If you could take the time to research about your item you could probably come up with a way cheaper one. You would have the same item but it would be a lot cheaper. Not only did you just save yourself but you also could use the money you didn’t spend for other things.

Pro Tip: Avoid shopping in highly touristic places. They cost a lot more than in other non touristic places.

  1. Visualizing

Think about how the item would look in 3 years. Would it be being used or would it be sitting and collecting dust. This method should help you think about how useful the item really is and if it’s even worth getting.
