It still surprises me how many kids don’t have allowances. I think it is very useful for them to learn some financial growth in money. It teaches them how to handle their money and become more responsible.

Reasons Why It Would Help Them

I think the biggest reason and the most needed one is it helps them become more responsible. They now understand that if they spend all the money it’s their own fault, they don’t have it. Or if they save it, it also helps them grow independent and rely on their own money instead of asking from their parents.

It teaches them what the consequences would be if they spent all their money and then needed that money later. It teaches them to limit their spending, save and buy more important/useful things. Having their own allowances also increases their independence because having their own money will show that they are capable of being on their own and still prospering.

This also improves money-based decisions which could potentially help them in the future. If they learn how to save early on, they won’t have to worry about it later in life. As adults they would already know the concept and finance successfully.

Another big thing is it reduces ask. Since they have their own money, they won’t feel the need to ask when they know they have their own. However, they do still ask, it’s their natural instinct.
